Located 15 miles from Athy Heritage Centre-Museum, Midlands Park Hotel offers 4-star accommodations in Portlaoise and has a shared lounge, a terrace and a bar.

Parking was very expensive and a pain to get to from hotel. There is no proper connection door. Prices and menu in bar restaurant were very expensive for essentially pub grub.. wasn't anything fancy. Pool area was a bit grubby but overall the hotel was nice.

The Maltings enjoys a location in Portlaoise, 15 miles from Athy Heritage Centre-Museum and 20 miles from Kildare Town Heritage Centre.

We loved that the two-bedroom apartment was spotless and it gave us tons of room to spread out with our 6 month old, who had a cot in the second bedroom. All the linen, bath towels and cookware appeared new and very clean. The main thing we disliked about the apartment was the design of the space. There were so many doors that led to each room from a main hallway and the front door. It would have been helpful to have door stops at least, so we could keep some of the doors open, since we have a baby and need to be able to hear her from every room. There was also a ton of signage about fire hazards, which was a bit alarming. This is not something we are used to in the US. We just had one night though, so we made it work and, overall, had a very comfortable stay.

Red Sheds Cabin 'Herons Den' offers accommodations in Portarlington, 14 miles from Kildare Town Heritage Centre and 16 miles from Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre.

Lovely small cabin built over a pond. Wildlife on either side of the bedroom. The sound of nature in the morning is very refreshing. Very comfortable, clean and peaceful. Perfect place to unwind and relax. Complete with WIFI (if needed) and more importantly, a nice Nespresso Coffee machine. Electric Fire/Heater in the living area and Electric Radiator in the bedroom provide ample heat. Nice, safe and secure parking onsite. Totally recommend for any solo traveler or couple looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban environments but yet still be close enough to civilization when required. Nice proximity to Portlaoise and Portarlington.

    Mountmellick is a quiet town.

Mountmellick is a quiet town. It offers some sites and history (founded by Quakers), but more importantly if you are staying there, the area is well sited for day excursions to other sites. It is a quiet, mostly farming community.

Mountmellick is a traditional Irish rural town, which retains all its original buildings, but with new housing and good shopping facilities visit the Mountmellick embroidery museum, with a good restaurant called the hares corner. This is situated to the north of the town.also close by are the slieve bloom mountains.

Great base for visiting historical sites and walking; also close enough to Dublin and even closer to Kildare and its renowned shopping village if that's your thing. Some excellent restaurants close by.

What a little treasure of a place to find. This is an early Georgian house (almost 300 years old) full of craftsmanship, carvings, stucco and quirkiness all immaculately restored by the owners who are obviously hugely knowledgeable and talented. A really cosy, sumptuous place to stay. The opposite of so many gigantic and disgusting Celtic tiger hotels all over Ireland.

Anna, the owner was such a lovely lady and although i was only there for a night, We had a nice chat at breakfast. She was very helpful, honest, & accommodating after i made some booking errors. The breakfast was 'super' and the whole B&B was also 'super'. I would infidelity recommend Barrow view to anyone in and around Mountmellick/Portlaois.

If you are looking for a regular hotel stay, then this is not for you! But if you are looking to step back in time and experience one of Ireland's beautiful country houses, then this is it. Steeped in history since 1766 with many of the original features this was a joy to stay in. James was great company too. I look forward to staying again.

I was visiting friends in Mountmellick and the location was ideal for all amenities, shops, bars etc. it was immaculately clean and well maintained and would recommend to anyone visiting the area. It would be ideal for walkers contemplating a visit to the Slieve Bloom mountains, as it is only a short journey away.
